 To Team or Not to Team

For the portfolio for AICE Media Studies, I have decided that I would work better in a group. In my opinion working in groups is more efficient and easier. The more people you have, the less work an individual has. After doing the “Lost at Sea” activity, I found that it the activity was done faster and was more enjoyable then doing the activity alone. Everyone in the team had different reasons why they would rank items higher than others. This allows everyone to see the different perspectives and thought processes of everyone in the group.  

In the article “The effect of personality type on team performance” is states “Expected benefits of successful teams include increased motivation, greater task commitment, higher levels of performance, ability to withstand stress, more innovative solutions, and decreased development time. Based on the analysis presented in this section, team composition of personality types does appear to be an important explanatory variable for differences in team performance.” This just shows that working can in teams can be efficient. From my experience of working in teams for many different activities; I found that it was a lot easier for us to complete the assignments or projects quicker. Being in groups of new people that you don’t know yet also has a greater chance of you getting to know them. This is an easy way to get more friends and feel more comfortable with the people around you.  

In the same article “The effect of personality type on team performance” the author sates “Before they could get into discussions on dealing with conflict, their collective idea of commitment, or holding one another accountable, the team needed to trust that what they were saying would be respected and heard. They shared personal backgrounds to learn about one another's perspectives and how they might relate to their colleagues in ways beyond work. They spoke candidly on what makes them comfortable and uncomfortable in a work environment. They discussed their team's core values and their vision for themselves and the company. "It allowed us to understand who people are. Combined with information from DiSC, we could establish a common language and move swiftly through the rest of the program," Leamon says.” This allowed the team to trust one another and become closer while they worked as a time. I bet before them working together, they were not as close to each other. 

In conclusion, I believe that working in groups is more efficient then working alone because of all the benefits working in groups provides. But working alone can be help sometimes because you don’t have to worry about relying on people who don’t do their work on time.

Peer Review

       After presenting my magazine project to the class I was greeted with a bunch of positive comments. My peers said that they liked the color and shadows that were on my magazine. They liked how I would put shadows on images to make them pop out more. They suggested that I fix a few things to make my magazine better which was great because I love suggestions. They suggested that on my content page I would make it go straight down because the zig-zag style on my content title was a little confusing at first glance. My teacher said that I should put the coach interview on page 4 instead of page 3 to make it more organized. An idea for me to change the design on my "About the Athlete" page to make it stand out more and more appealing to the eye. A student suggested that I contrast the colors a bit to add more of an effect.
